2018 Fic Roundup

also I just published a chapter of the most popular fic I’ve ever written, which has bumped the stats for that fic into 2019, even though technically I wrote most of it in 2018. so I’m adding the stats for that into the stats for 2018 because that’s where they belong and also if I’m bragging about my fanfiction I should really be bragging about that one because including it actually doubles a few of my stats and like. quintuples subscriptions or something

Links and Titles to 2018 Works (in chronological order)
- Romantic Gestures - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Faith/Buffy, 4.4k words. Cute proposal fic featuring baby Slayer accomplices.
- Back to Life - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Tara/Willow, 1.6k words. Tara is alive and that’s all you need to know about this one.
- Forever - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Faith/Buffy, 3.3k words. The wedding fic Romantic Gestures promised.
- City Girls - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Faith/Buffy, 5.1k words. Faith and Buffy meet in LA over the summer. I meant to make this a series and I probably still will someday.
- Return - Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel, Willow/Tara/Fred, 19k words. Part of a series I wrote in which Fred and Tara are both there at the end of season seven. This one’s a bit of a rambling mess; I did not mean for it to be 19k words and I’m still not sure how I feel about it.
- Too Much Distance - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Faith/Buffy, 4.8 words. Written entirely because I love post-Chosen fics and I wanted to write one of my very own.
- Girls Who Like Girls - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 4.5k words. Technically the bulk of this was written in 2016, but since then I’ve added a couple chapters. I might write more; I think this showed up in my 2017 roundup, and catch it showing up in my 2019 roundup, too. Buffyverse women have gay awakenings.
- Rules and Bravery - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Buffy/Kendra, 1.2k words. Written for Buffyverse Femslash Week 2018. A canon-compliant exploration of Kendra’s potential feelings.
- Remember - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Tara/Willow, 1.3k words. Written for Buffyverse Femslash Week 2018. Willow realizes she’s going off the rails and tells Tara that she’s thinking of doing the forgetting spell. Tara helps her. Written because I realized that this is how I wanted season six to go.
- By Side - Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel, Willow/Tara/Fred, 1.2k words. Written for Buffyverse Femslash Week 2018. Tara and Willow accidentally pull Fred out of Pylea.
- Good Company - Buffy the Vampire Slayer/A Series of Unfortunate Events, Jenny Calendar/Olivia Caliban, 2.4k words. Written for Buffyverse Femslash Week 2018. Olivia and Jenny work at Sunnydale High and discover that there are a few children needing adult support.
- Fulfilling Prophecy - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawn/Cassie, 1.2k words. Written for Buffyverse Femslash Week 2018. Dawn has a crush on Cassie.
- Hero(in)es - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Faith/Buffy, 1.5k words. Written for Buffyverse Femslash Week 2018. Faith and Buffy are ancient Greek heroes. Vaguely inspired by Song of Achilles, vaguely inspired by the fact that I spend my whole life thinking about the concept of women as ancient heroes.
- Slayers Go to Pride - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Faith/Buffy, 1k words. Written for Buffyverse Femslash Week 2018. Exactly what it says on the tin: Faith and Buffy take a number of younger Slayers to a Pride parade.
- Sloane, Slayer - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 2.7k words. Written as part of a project no one else participated in in the end. A story about a Potential who might have been.
- A Beach and Some Sun - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Faith/Buffy, 3.6k words. The honeymoon sequel to all that wedding nonsense above. Set largely in Italy because I love Italy.
- Whole New (Human) Life - Doctor Who, Thirteen/Rose, 4.2k words. Nine regenerated right into thirteen and now thirteen is the metacrisis, stuck with Rose in the parallel universe. It’s numerically confusing, but fortunately the fic doesn’t rely on numbers.
- Adventures at Sunrise - Doctor Who, Thirteen/Rose, 1k words. A sequel to the one above. Metacrisis thirteen has a mid-life crisis. (Which is basically what “metacrisis” means anyway, I think.)
- Library Science - Buffy the Vampire Slayer/A Series of Unfortunate Events, Jenny Calendar/Olivia Caliban, 49.3k words. Sequel to Good Company. A version of season one with Olivia as librarian, basically.
- How Much She Cares - Doctor Who, Thirteen/Yaz, 8k words. My attempt at writing a realistic progression for their relationship.
- Warmth - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Faith/Buffy, 2.7k words. Written for Buffyverse Femslash Secret Santa. Faith and Buffy go to Willow’s Hanukkah party together, and I try to spell Hanukkah the same way every time.
- Strange New Doctor - Doctor Who, Thirteen/Rose, 7k words. Prequel to Whole New (Human) Life. AU of “The Christmas Invasion” featuring thirteen instead of ten. Again, numerically confusing, but makes sense in context.
- Heartbeats - Doctor Who, Thirteen/Rose, 27.7k words. Rose is a Time Lord and yeets herself out of the parallel universe after about eighty years. She meets Thirteen and crew and they all go on adventures, featuring a number of familiar faces. Will continue into 2019 and as long as I keep wanting to write it, basically.
Favorite Fic: Library Science for sure! It’s the longest fic I’ve ever written, and probably one of the best. I had a great time writing it, too. Heartbeats and How Much She Cares both deserve honorable mentions, though.
Hardest Fic: That last chapter of Heartbeats kicked my butt. Technically I posted it in 2019, but I was trying to post it for New Year’s Eve. Anything in which I attempt a half-decent plot, basically, is about the hardest thing I’ve ever written, and I think Heartbeats is probably the most plot-heavy fic I’ve attempted.
Do You Plan to Take Prompts in 2019? I’ll always take prompts. I love some inspiration.
What was the best thing about 2018? I got to spend a day in Florence with my favorite author ever completely unexpectedly. So that was the best day of possibly my entire life. But more generally, I became close friends with a lot of people and learned a lot about myself, which was really nice. I have a lot to work on in 2019 and beyond, but I’ve figured out some of what that is now.
What was the worst thing about 2018? My mental and physical health haven’t been that great, and that’s been frustrating. Fall semester was really hard.
Any last thoughts for 2018? Not a bad year, overall. Lots of growth and all that. I’m a first responder now, and I get to live with my friends, and I went to Italy. Fic-wise, this is the first time in about two years that I’ve strayed from Buffy as my main fandom, which has been wild. A lot more people read your work when you’re writing for an active fandom, apparently.
Goals for 2019
I’m assuming this is fic goals?
- Continue Strange New Doctor
- Have fewer Google Doc tabs open in my browser (ie. finish more of my WIP’s)
- FAITH LEHANE, TIME LORD
- Continue the Olivia/Jenny AU! I have a lot of ideas about what might happen next (new Watcher, Baudelaires show up somehow?) that I’d like to put into action.
- Write more in general, I think! I think, like, every year my goal is to write more than the year before, somehow.
- Possibly learn to actually edit fics before posting? As of right now, 50% of my work is completely unedited, and the other 50% got maybe a once-over before posting.

Date: 2019-01-03 07:36 am (UTC)I loved the idea of Called from Afar. I seriously considered writing something for it, but I guess all my other plans got in the way, at least for now.
